Stop Hitting Claude Usage Limits

Hitting Claude's usage limit mid-task is infuriating — and usually avoidable.

Three changes that make the biggest difference:

1. Match the model to the job. Opus costs ~5x more than Sonnet. Save it for heavy reasoning, use Sonnet for analysis, Haiku for quick stuff.

2. Edit your last message instead of stacking follow-ups. Claude re-reads the whole conversation every turn — a 30-message thread reprocesses 29 old messages every time.

3. Don't let chats get bloated. Summarize and start fresh once a thread gets long. (In Claude Code, the /compact command does this for you — note: that's Claude Code, not the regular chat app.)

These three alone will stretch your usage way further. I broke down 7 more in the full guide.
